Wyldheart Backgrounds: Origins, Ancestries & Builds

Wyldheart’s demo offers 19 backgrounds and four ancestries. A background establishes your character’s origin; it does not lock you into a traditional class. Your skill-point choices define how your character develops.

The four ancestry names

The current English Steam description names Freefolk, Mossling, Grimhorn and Stonefolk. Its presentation describes Freefolk as humans, Mosslings as small folk, Grimhorns as towering and Stonefolk as stout. These are descriptions of identity, not a statistical tier list.

Some older official website copy still lists three ancestries. For the current demo count, use the October 8 announcement’s four and the current Steam description. Do not turn an older marketing list into a restriction on the demo.

How to choose a background

Read the origin that appeals to the character you want to play, then inspect the choices shown in the current character creator. The official FAQ’s useful distinction is that an origin is not a permanent class choice.

If the menu displays starting items or skill effects, compare those exact descriptions before confirming. A full 19-background bonus table is not established by the reviewed primary sources, so this page does not invent one or rank backgrounds by unsupported numbers.

Build through skill choices

The official description identifies flexible skill trees across Adventuring, Survival, Dungeoneering, Weaponry and Magic. The demo announcement names swords, axes, clubs, spears, bows and several Magic Paths.

Choose the skills you want to use rather than looking for a mandatory Fighter, Rogue or Mage selector. For magic, an unlocked spell still has equipment and binding requirements; the separate spell guide walks through those checks.

Picking origins in co-op

Different character concepts can coexist in the same party. No fixed tank/healer/damage class requirement is established by the FAQ. Discuss how you want to play, then base equipment and skill choices on the game’s actual descriptions.

The demo’s shared XP applies to players present in the session. It does not grant experience to absent teammates, so a background choice should not be justified with a promise of automatic offline progression.

What this guide compares

This guide covers confirmed origin choices, ancestry names and the classless system. It does not claim exact background bonuses, respec rules, ancestry damage modifiers or a best starting build. Those details need the current character-creation screens or a published rules reference.
