Wyldheart on Steam Deck: What Is Supported?
Yes—the developer says the demo is playable on Steam Deck. However, optimisation is still in progress, and the team recommends PC with mouse and keyboard. Experience on Deck can vary.
Reviewed · Demo 0.7.2; Steam Deck developer reply dated October 9, 2026
Playable does not promise a particular frame rate
In an October 9 Steam reply marked as the answer, developer JoshuaElkington92 confirms that the demo is playable on Steam Deck. The same answer says more optimisation work is needed. The official demo FAQ repeats this distinction.
That supports trying the demo on your own Deck; it does not establish a Valve Verified rating, a stable frame-rate target, a battery estimate or a particular Proton version. No fixed graphics preset follows from the developer’s answer.
| Question | Confirmed answer |
|---|---|
| Can the demo run on Deck? | The developer says it is playable. |
| Is optimisation finished? | No; the team says more work is planned. |
| Which setup does the team recommend? | PC with mouse and keyboard. |
| Does Deck change offline saving? | No Deck exception is documented; offline demo progress is lost on exit. |
Before starting a Deck session
- Install the public Steam demo. Use the official Wyldheart Steam listing and let updates finish. The demo and the coming-soon full game are separate releases.
- Check how you will save. The demo FAQ says an internet connection is required to save progress and play with friends. An offline session is a temporary trial whose progress is lost on exit.
- Review your control settings. Controller support exists, but the FAQ says it still needs fine tuning. Use the controls shown in your own build rather than assuming a universal Deck button layout.
- Match a problem to its symptom. A first-launch shader countdown, a service connection problem and variable performance are different issues. Record which one you actually see before changing settings.
- Find the official demo download and requirements
Use the demo access guide before testing a new device.
- Check online and offline saving rules
Decide whether this session needs to persist before you begin.
Using spells and controller bindings
The verified keyboard instruction for binding an unlocked spell is to equip the required Grimoire, leave the menu and hold T. That is a mouse-and-keyboard instruction, not a confirmed Deck controller shortcut.
If you are using the Deck controls, look at the current in-game binding screen. The developer sources checked here do not give a specific shoulder button or touchpad shortcut for the skill wheel.
- Understand spell equipment and binding
Check the Grimoire and unlocked skill separately from your controller mapping.
When launch behaviour needs a different check
The official issue list identifies a first-start countdown as shader compilation and advises waiting. It does not specify a guaranteed wait time. Campaign loading can instead require checking the live service page and the installed build.
Do not interpret a loading failure as proof that Steam Deck is unsupported: the developer’s published answer explicitly says it is playable. Equally, that answer does not guarantee identical performance for every Deck model or configuration.
- Separate startup delays from connection failures
Use the symptom table and the dated 0.7.2 patch notes.
